THIS IS PRE ALPHA SOFTWARE and does NOT represent the final state. 

Please know that this software is not ready to be shown to the world! It is simple, there is no menu customization, there aren't as many effects as I want to add, there might even be a few glitches. It is however, usable. So when you purchase this please do so knowing that it is bare-bones.

I wouldn't have even considered uploading it in it's current state except so many wonderful people asked me to. I hope that even though you might buy it here, that you consider continuing to help me out and share the project as it grows.

This software will get all future updates. I would never let you buy it here then ask you to buy it again later for the final version. 

What is Arcane Overlay?

It is an ultra-light effects software for ttrpg battlemaps. It allows DMs (or anyone) to use any projector to put beautiful and dynamic effects right onto their physical terrain in seconds without having to look at a screen. It accomplishes this by using nested radial menus that allow selection to happen instantly. Fire, poison, lightning, ice and more can be spread across your terrain and minis bringing your table to life with zero distraction. The selection cursor is on the table, allowing you to have the computer running the software in a different part of the room if you so choose (with a wireless mouse). Gone are the days of "hold on, one sec. You cast fireball... let me just... apply this...". With Arcane Overlay you apply the fire by the time you describe what that fireball hit. 

What are my plans for the software?

It is currently in a usable state, although it is extremely barebones, but FUN to play with. I plan to develop and add additional features over time as I can. The more support the software gets, the more time I can dedicate to it. I am also considering a kickstarter for the sole purpose of letting users decide how much truly gets added. Setting a reasonable base goal to develop the software fully, then having stretch goals for additional effects of genres (Scifi? Steampunk?)

Planned v1.0 Features

-Customizable UI 

Complete control over nested radial menus allowing you to set up your most used effects with the quickest access.

-More Effects

Adding more effects like Smoke, Bubbling Acid, Power Aura, Glowing Lights, more spell circles and more. 

-Area Lighting Control

This will allow you to set up 'lighting' to give your battlemap more focus. Maybe have a faint glow around your camp while the woods around your players are left dark. Maybe half your battlemap glows red from an unholy ritual.

-Pre Fog of War Effects

This will allow you to set up effects in rooms then hide them with fog of war. Such as a glowing spell circle and flickering torches. This feature is for DMs who prefer to set up ahead of time, as AO allows you to build scenes in seconds so you might never need it!

Features I Want To add

These are features I want to add but will likely not be able to without enough financial support which is why I want to do a kickstarter with them as stretch goals. I'll not only need to spend the development time on them I will also need to hire artists to make the beautiful art!

-Spell Effects

Actual spells that emanate from your actual mini and fly across the battlemap! Auras, Dancing Lights, Rage and more. With a simple click and drag you'll get to see the power of your abilities come to life and the effects they leave on the world. This will be the most art heavy and will require hiring an artist/s. 

-Exact Placement

Clicking on a spot and typing in a distance/using a radial menu with common sizes to make it even faster. This will help tables who often need the same effect place it exactly where they want it each time without needing to draw. 

-Effect/Object Outlines

Add a toggleable outline to effects so players know where the danger zone is!  

-Effect/Object Customization System

A customization system where you can change and add things to your effects. Alter the color, the intensity, speed and more. Give your players their own unique power aura or build a special spell circle for a particularly intense ritual!

-Blood

Blood splats maybe? I mean, barbarians rarely leave the battlefield clean. 

-Rivers

Create beautiful and flowing rivers that sparkles and trickle through your terrain by simply drawing a line and watching it come to life.

-Different Genres

Scifi? Steampunk? Additional Effects and Objects could be added to allow players of all genres to enjoy Arcane Overlay. Combined with the fully customizable UI - DMs can decide which effects they want to see in their quick access menus. 

-Mobile Support

Creating a mobile version for those of you who have a projector you can cast to. Allowing you to simply open an app on your phone/tablet and begin drawing effects right on your table.

How to use:

This system works on left and right clicks. Left click for effects, right click for objects and edits. Right click effects or objects to see their context menus.

Each of them can be sized or moved after placing. 

Right click empty space to place objects, change time of day, clear the map or to exit the software.
